THE photos of starving, neglected and abused special-needs children of an Iraqi orphanage that have appeared in the media two days ago were horrifying indeed. Our heart bleeds and eyes shy away when we have a look at it. Children, especially special-needs children, need more care and affection. Who is to be blamed for the plight of these unfortunate children? Is it the war, or Saddam Hussein, or the children themselves, for being born as special-needs children with no voice of their own. These are all signs of the effect the war has on Iraq. People are in a state of shock, and are benumbed as they see bombs exploding everyday, corpses lying on the roads, places of worship being blown up and violence taking precedence over everything.A state of senselessness is what war brings; and now, who is to be blamed? Saddam? Unfounded weapons of mass destruction (WMD)? Democracy? Now we feel Saddam was a lesser evil.
