Al Maliki’s failure (www.khaleejtimes.com)
9 January 2007

EID is a festival of sacrifice. As such, the execution of Saddam Hussein on that day was wrong; yet, however, his supporters say he died like a lion. They mean he sacrificed his life for the people of Iraq. Prime Minister Al Maliki’s claim is that the people celebrated Saddam’s death and that the execution was a gift for those who were maltreated by Saddam and his regime. But, by choosing the day of sacrifice for the execution, the government has inadvertently made him a martyr. The aim of capital punishment is to show to the people the fate that awaits those who commit heinous crimes. This aim was not achieved in this case, because of the hurry with which the Iraqi dispensation executed him, and by choosing the wrong day for it to happen.

People as people
21 January 2007

THE exposure by media of racism involving an Indian diva in Big Brother reality show proves, if anything, the intolerance and cultural hypocrisy of some people. Racism is prevalent in its various forms all over the world. It affects the common man and many suffer it silently for obvious reasons. When people go to live in developed countries as minorities, these things happen. I believe racism can be eradicated only if people accept people as humans irrespective of their class, creed, colour, sect and gender. All religions basically teach people to respect one another, but what we see now all over the world is only disrespect and violence, against each other, be it physical or mental.

world, i don''t know but in India- caste discrimination. we cannot do anything about it. common ppl do not mind or worry about caste but for political leaders this is their voting machine.

Have u ever wondered about the stigma attached to low caste in india? while racism is despicable, the discrimination in our very own society is something which concerns us intimately n shouldn''t we do something about it on priority?

    Dear Ahsan,

I agree with your opinion, but you see, what that actress has done later stage (after people from every quarter has raised voice against racism), she withdrew her statement and says people had misunderstood!?!

forget about racism of the world...what about the castism in India. how people are exploiting the caste system and hierarchy. the govt instititutes will soon be run by only...''lower castes'', NT/SC/ST...whatever....lets solve that first i guess. then only we can point a finger at other countries

I fully agree with Sindhu menon..... in future all SC/ST will rule India. Earlier it was dominated by Brahamins and just to retaliate it is SC/ST now. So when are we really going to learn and give respect/acknowledge merit? When we have so many things here why should we talk about racism elsewere?
