Reservation Issue

Reservations In Indian Universities

The basis of Reservations in general is to give a chance for the deprived members of the society to be on par with other members of the society. I agree wholeheartedly with the Government in this regard. I feel it is a good policy but the implementation has gone haywire. Many claim university seats by exploiting the loop holes & by using, money power, political clout etc. They are not deprived in terms of power or economy. Actually the real deprived are still left behind & so the reservation policy becomes ineffective.
The authorities need to plug the loop holes & implement it the best way to serve the purpose it was intended for. Reservation only gives you a place in the university but to graduate from the university the student has to go through the entire process & grind as everyone does. So in principal one should not doubt the credibility of the graduates passing out from the universities be it doctors, engineers or whatever as long as they complete the entire system successfully.

In my opinion if people loose faith about the system of the university then that needs serious thinking. I think more concentration is given on the entrance requirements & exams to the universities rather than the talent or capability of graduates that come out from the university after going through the entire process successfully. I think the product that comes out from the university should be acceptable if the standard for graduating from the university is good & the system follows the norms strictly. So the only concern is that many students who have scored better during the qualifying exams to get admission are bypassed.
As I see it there is only a thin line of difference on the scores for qualifying & in fact the difference is (decimals) in many cases which is negligible. What difference does it make between a person who scores 90% & one who scores 88%.Is there too much of difference in intelligence? Will he make a poor quality professional when he does graduate? I think not. Then why should he be denied a place to join the professional colleges especially if he or she is from those deprived classes. The qualification requirements for entry in the universities are set based on research and any student who could achieve the requirements should be capable enough to succeed. So one cannot say that the student is not fit for the course he is opting if he succeeds in fulfilling the requirements set by university for graduating.

The problem is what about those who were left out because of this clause regarding concession for the deprived. The best solution for this problem is to have better colleges with better infrastructure so that the intake is more & the standards of the product are high. That way all can be accommodated. To have better standards the educational systems should be changed & the product becomes desirable in the job market. This is where the concentration should be rather that fighting against the deprived class. I agree reservation with proper implementation is for a purpose, but it has taken a wrong turn for worse. Let us be more pragmatic. Whenever there is imbalance allocations are made to balance it out.

I felt dismayed when I read the news Doctors go on indefinite fast in the capital because the would-be or the so called doctors who take oath to serve the people are protesting for the wrong reasons & if they are reasonable they wouldn’t deprive the poor who are affected by this strike. I feel they care less for the poor. The attitude of doctors is of prime importance in this noble profession. The society does not require high end doctors who don’t have an attitude to serve the people. If at all they want to protest they have to adopt ways where the care for society is not compromised. It is the same in all professions that are primordially to serve the society in general

This 49.5% quota in IIT/IIM not enough. It should be around 100% or at least 97% (3% may be left for these pity creatures called general candidates provided there is consensus among parties.) Further to this there should be reservation in campus placements in the same proportion as not just education but its the Job which matters in the end. This reservation should strictly be on the basis of "caste" and not on any other economic and social criteria, (no creamy layers please) as it will go against the “basic objective” of implementing this policy. It’s ok if most of the seats are eaten by the “developed” among these castes. I would like to inform all these upper caste and so called meritorious candidates not to get carried away by "equal opportunity" clause mentioned in the constitution. We may be a secular country as per constitution but by and large India is a country of SC's, ST's, OBC's, minorities, oppressed castes, supressed castes, depressed clastes, etc etc. Rest

Reservation is for the Dalits only.It is not for the weaker sections.it is an outrage of principles of natural justice, equity and good conscience.Dalits may be opressed in some part of the country but as a whole they are feared and those who have the occaison to have their companyare constrained to give them a wide birth.

True. In fact, one might consider that a person coming from those "deprived classes" would have been at a distinct disadvantage during the qualifying exams. Think of what a difference it make s for one having been grown-up in a literate family with every opportunity to leanr at your fingertips, being exposed to intellectual stimuli at every turn....

Whereas someone, whose parents cannot read or write, whose entire family doesn't even own a single book. Deprived of any nourishment or chance to develop, one must have worked very hard to reach even a modest level of learning.

I recomment a "handicap", if you please. One who comes from an advantaged class to pass the 90% mark fair and square. One, for who began as "disadvantaged" maybe 75% would be sufficient...? Hmm?! Surely they must have fought harder than anyone even for this... They would also be the ones most appreciative and diligent to honor their achievement for it was hard-earned - And will remain precious to them. Whereas, the "advantaged" tend to take their success and fortune as given, thus become the doctors who might prefer money before life...

I may be harsh, but I've seen it. A 16-old boy dying, bleeding to death, at a hospital lobby, because he had no cash or credit and no-one could ascertain payment for his wounds before it was too late. Needless to say, the doctor was "well-off" to begin with, hence no sympathy for other's suffering other than money could bring.
And how do I know that, our own security-guards shot the poor sap during the night. Turned out to be a misunderstanding and by the time I got the company-owners woke up and approved of our assistance to pay for treatment (after 8 hours trying) he was already dead (bled to death, no-one had even bothered to bind his wounds). Later, of course scandal followed and the guards who shot him ended-up in jail. Curiously, the doctor who actually killed him, wasn't even questioned...

The Greatest Evil that blankets our country. It started out for a noble cause -but now has been used as a divine right by a certain strata of the society. Reservation should only and only be given to those who are economically strapped. We have ceased to exist as a Nation - we are now splintered along Caste, Religious and Regional Lines - It is a mockery to call ourselves as Indians. I have nothing more to add since nothing makes sense anymore.

I always wonder, why only restrict ourself with reservation at admission alone. I propose let there be a reservation at the entrance of the institute .may be there can be a separate gate for them. We can paint the staircase for the reserved category. what u say for deep blue color???? We can have a separate sitting arrangement in class. How about gettin cushioned seats for the reserved category???come on they have slogged there a***... atleast let them have a pleasure of cushioned seats. There should be a reserved eating area and water dispenser for the reserved category.... f**k am I being racist??? heck no !!!! im just extrapolating the idea of Govermnet Hail [hell ] reservation

If you are kind enough, you will help others but only when you are happy. Otherwise can you help someone in need when your needs aren''t met? How can doctors care for poor while there own existence is at stake? They do care for poor people. Suppose a doctor comes from reservation category, will he be able to doctor a poor? Does he knows something? If he knows why he needs quota? Can''t he come through merit? Before writing, please think!
